Shrimp Aglio e Olio for Acting Instead of Dreaming | Sara's Kitchen Witchcraft

So, like, what'cha gonna do to make all those dreams reality, babe?

Fuck a bunch of Valentine's Day nonsense; it is now Lent (and almost Pisces season), and that means we got work to do, baby.

And given that tomorrow is Ash Wednesday? Yeah. Yeah, we're going to need a "meat" free recipe that helps us lock in for 40 days of contemplation, discipline, penance, and getting our shit together.

(In the meantime, though, enjoy your Mardi Gras. Pust/Shrovetide is the last bit of craziness and explosive joy you're gonna get until Easter if you're following along, and with it also being the start of the Year of the Fire Horse in eastern astrology... there's a lot happening! A lot.)

Now, as y'all may know, seafood does not count as meat during Lent—and that's why, for Ash Wednesday (and whenever else you need a pick-me-up for this Pisces season), this shrimp aglio e olio dish is perfect. Quick, light, and so satisfying for all my girlies that love butter noodles (but want a little more oomph to it), this dish is a favorite that my mom put me on, and I love it. I also love the magic in it, and that's why we're looking at the shrimp, garlic, olive, and parsley for this meal.

Gremo!

Magic in Shrimp Aglio e Olio

Okay, so, the aglio part of this actually means garlic, so if you wanted to invoke the large amount of onion in here, you could—but it has the same planetary/elemental associations as garlic, and nearly the same functions, so really, it just depends how crazy you wanna go with it. For the sake of it being in the name, we're going with garlic, which has a long history of driving bad stuff away, and yet also has a history of bringing prosperity to you as well. Throw some olive in there for protection and wealth, as well as some parsley for the purification, the intellectual boost, and the protection, and you've got some powerful energy to weave into an armor of the mind and the heart (in terms of your passions).

Another fun thing to look at here, though, is shrimp. I really had no idea what to do with shrimp, if I'm being honest, but after looking into folklore from around the world in this little post, there are a lot of fun stories that told me these animals are associated with fertility, abundance, faith, and luck, as well as apparently being a common thing to turn people into as punishment. That made me think Jupiter and water for these little guys, and knowing their other qualities, like their hard shell, and the fact that they're filter feeders, well—that makes them also very protective and good at transmuting junk into treasure.

If there’s one thing we can see in here, it’s that the lack of earth makes for an ungrounded, yet seriously fun time. (If you want to balance this with some earth vibes to ground your ideas, intentions, and wishes, just invoke the wheat or whatever grain you use in your pasta.) Still, all air, fire, and water, plus the planetary influences of Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, and Mercury, give us a lot of things: the spice, passion, power, and zest to achieve what our dreams (Mars/Sun, Fire), the luck and grace to intuit our way to success (Jupiter/Water), and the intellectual capacity to logically map that intuition out into concrete plans that we can execute and communicate with others (Mercury/Air). The perfect blend of energies for cutting down indecision and getting down to business!
