I remember my high school having a World Language Club, where occasionally, they would host potlucks. One time I went to one with this salad expecting that people would give it a try, because it's delicious and vibrant and fresh and delicious.

I mean, think about it: cucumbers, vinegar, sugar, salt, and fresh dill, all marinating together for the perfect cold and creamy salad.

But no one touched it. They were too busy eating croissants from Dunkin' they wanted to pretend were the pinnacle of French cuisine. Oh well!

However, it's cookout season, and I know for a fact that at least a few people may be looking for a delicious, quick, and oh-so-simple recipe for a side dish that they can bring along. I say look no further than German cucumber salad (Gürkensalat)—both for your potlucks and cookouts and for some fantastic, prosperous magic to share with your loved ones. All of the ingredients here are magical, especially the yogurt, salt, dill, and cucumber. With those last two, you can also get some really good color magic for prosperity too, given that the main color is green.

So let's take a look!

Magic in German Cucumber Salad (Gürkensalat)

When it comes to certain foods, here's the thing: the colors still count, and they can be a big tip in figuring out what ingredients are good for. As an example, eggplant? I can never find that in any kitchen witch books, so it comes down to trying to figure it out just by considering the type of plant it is (nightshade, like tomatoes and peppers) and considering its color (purple, a color of royalty, psychic power, wealth, etc. associated with fire). We can apply this same logic to items like cucumbers or dill on the fly, given their bright green color. Mix with sugar and dairy, and you've got a wealthy side dish.

With this salad, you've got the intuitive powers of the Moon, the efficient and intellectual powers of Mercury, and the elements fire and water to help you gain prosperity via your connections with others. It also helps to make your work easier, your conversations smoother, and your intentions that much easier to grow. When it comes to abundance, it's important to remember: working magic on getting the money is only one way of doing so. Working magic on the methods in which you get money is in itself a whole other ball game—and it works.

German Cucumber Salad (Gürkensalat)

Prep time: 15 minutes

Rest time: 3 hours

Makes 3-4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 3 large cucumbers, peeled

  • 1/2 Tbsp salt

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (or sour cream)

  • 2 Tbsp sugar

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp chopped fresh dill (or 1 1/2 tsp dried)

  • 1 Tbsp white vinegar

Directions:

  1. Slice your peeled cucumbers into pickle-width slices

  2. Salt generously, then let sit in a bowl for ten minutes.

  3. Squeeze all excess water out, then dry them as much as you can

  4. Add all the other ingredients together and let sit in the fridge for at least 3 hours

  5. Serve as is.

If you want that bump of protein, definitely use Greek yogurt. Then it makes a pretty delicious lunch, too, and it fills you up wonderfully. But this dish is zesty, fresh, and a little sweet, and it's perfect for any cookout table, so definitely give it a try!
