Thoughts on Neoplatonism?
Hey Sarah, what's your opinion on neoplatonism and does it influence your worldview and practice at all? Asking as someone that syncretises neoplatonic hellenism with folk catholicism. —Brendon
Hey, Brendon!
To be honest, I don't really know all that much about neoplatonism! I know St. Gregory of Nyssa has to do something with it and have a whole book about the topic, but I haven't dug much into that yet. It's on my list though, given I've heard it's influenced Christian mystic thought a lot.
Where Can I Find More About Christian Witchcraft?
I'm a young girl looking to find people who can teach me more about christian witchcraft. I wanna understand more. Is there a site I can go to or an app? —Flower
Hi, Flower!
There are lots of places to look! This whole blog, for one, has plenty of articles about Christian Witchcraft, and my YouTube has plenty of videos, too. Many Christian Witches on TikTok like Hannah (@spirituali.tea), Mimi (@feral_southern_housewife) and Lina (@linathejesuswitch) have Patreons, too, and Lina runs a whole Discord server for Christian Witches (check her TikTok to find it)!
Thoughts on The Chosen?
Sort of a general question but Christian related nonetheless, have you seen the show The Chosen? What do you think of it? —Anonymous
Hi, there!
I've never watched it fully, though I want to. I've seen plenty of clips of it that make it seem really entertaining and at least trying to keep to the actual human life of Jesus. It reminds me of the first way I read the Bible: The Book of God by Walter Wangerin Jr. It's written as a novel, and it humanizes the whole story so beautifully. The Chosen looks much the same, but in T.V. format.
What's the Difference Between Christian Witchcraft and Folk Catholicism?
Hi, Sara! I recently learned about Folk Catholicism from the channel "Chaotic Witch Aunt", and have been trying my best to learn more. In what aspects would "Christian Witchcraft" differ? For example, Folk Catholicism seems to have more of a focus on veneration of saints, the actual historical "Folk". Does Christian Witchcraft focus more on the teachings of Christ? Also, is it a closed practice? Thank you for your time and consideration! I look forward to discussing and learning from you more, and I look forward to what more you post on your Instagram! —Kenny
Hey, Kenny!
Honestly, the distinction between Christian Witchcraft and folk Catholicism can be very thin depending on what denomination you're coming from. For instance, I grew up Catholic and am now Episcopalian (AKA Catholic Lite™): a lot of the things I incorporate into my magic, like rosaries, holy water, bells, etc., are all parts of regular Catholicism as well. But those from different denominations, like my friend and co-writer Mimi, come from other backgrounds (in Mimi's case: Appalachian Pentecostal) that have nothing to do with Catholicism.
In general, folk Catholicism is used as a cover to continue ancient customs under a safe "Christian-looking" blanket; that was the point of it in times where being anything but Catholic would get you killed. Now, with the religious freedom we have in modern era, you can be a Chrisitan Witch without ever touching more Catholic based things or dealing with Saints or old gods disguised as Saints.
How Do You Deconstruct Your Fears?
I’ve been raised muslim (so abrahamic) and I’ve struggled with religion for really long. it’s so hard to like, deconstruct something when finding resources or people to talk to is so hard. I was wondering if you’ve any insight into how one can deconstruct, untether the deep deep paranoia of hellfire and ‘you’re just being deceived by satan’ (who despite what were taught I can’t bring myself to hate, who feels easier to connect to, and actually quite genuine which is so confusing in and of itself). —Anonymous
Hey!
I understand what you're talking about. Honestly, the only real way I've ever deconstructed any of my own fears was to talk to God directly. I had, and still have, religious-based OCD that makes it difficult sometimes to get a handle on my thoughts. It used to be much worse when I didn't understand as much about God or His mercy, though, and it wasn't until I studied Him more, talked to Him more, and gathered the courage to question Him directly to His face that the illusions of the world started falling away and God started guiding me towards the Truth: that He doesn't send a single soul to hell.
It's a bit of a Catch-22, but if you can rally that courage to face God and ask Him to directly answer your fears, you'll be surprised. Just overcoming the feeling of "how dare I question God" will break you free of a lot of these chains.
Is Christian Witchcraft Legit?
I’m a Christian now, and have been for almost 20 yrs, but before that I was in witchcraft and shamanism for around 30 yrs. But I've always been being pulled back to witchcraft. I,ve talked to our minister now and he says there’s a reason pray on it. And I believe God is leading me to pursue Christian witchery, I guess I just want some validation that this is a real path for someone to pursue. And how do I go about pursuing it. Thank you. ☺️ —Anonymous
Hello!
Well, I'm happy to give you that validation, because yes! This is an absolutely valid path, and pursuing it starts with asking yourself why you want to pursue it. What are your motives? What do you intend to do with this power if you learn to harness it? How will it help you grow closer to God?
When we remember that much of magic and occultism and these other things were once meant to bring someone up to the very inner dwelling of God, and to become one with Him, thus reaching our own enlightenment and improving ourselves beyond what we can do through earthly means alone, you realize that this path, like so many others, exists as a tool for you to exemplify divine love in this world—and that when you walk this path with that in mind, the whole world becomes so much more beautiful and dear as part of God's creation.
How Do I Stay Grounded in Christian Thinking While Exploring Mysticism?
Do you have any suggestions for exploring the more mystical and magical while staying firmly grounded in Christian Truth? Especially when those around me will 1000% freak out if they knew I was even exploring it so it's not like I can discuss it with them? ... We know Christians can heal in the name of Jesus and chase out evil spirits in His name. Is this just a reworded spell work? —Ren
Hi, Ren!
I get'cha. After being on #witchtok for about three years, it's really easy to see how people's "studies" can drag them straight off the deep end. However, there's some good news: the Bible already tells us exactly how you know you're on the right path. Remember this line from Galatians whenever you start wondering where your studies are taking you (5:22-23):
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
No matter what you're studying, do you find yourself coming closer into alignment with these things? Do they help you become softer and more gracious to your fellow man, or do they harden you and make you closed off? Do they give you peace or fear? Do they help you get comfortable with the infinite expanse that is our God, or do they make you grasp for the comfort of what's familiar at the expense of your growth?
In all my studying, I've found that this is the ultimate compass, and Jesus's commandment of loving one another the ultimate North Star. Follow those things, and turn away from what makes you forget those things, and you'll never be led wrong.
Do Your Spells Actually Work?
Would you please share a couple of examples of times that spells you did as a Christian witch demonstrably came to fruition? ... My goal is to see examples of what, in Christian witchcraft, counts as a successful spell result, and to hopefully draw some inspiration as to how to redirect my spell work. As context, my spell work focuses around getting divine support for my family’s efforts to keep our household sustained, not random Lamborghinis, Nobel Prizes, or winning Powerball tickets. Thank you! —Anonymous
Hello!
Oh, goodness, do I have examples of spells that work. To be honest, I don't do spells very often, but when I do, God has pulled through beautifully. However, I kept that last part of your comment in because that's a big part of it: what exactly are your expectations of your spellwork? What are you hoping to see, and how are you asking for it? Most importantly, are you giving thanks for what you already have?
My biggest example, and my most repeated example, of a spell that works is my monthly house-sustaining money spell. I use Matthew 6:24-34 as the main Gospel reading for this, and I start with prayers of gratitude and end with prayers for those less fortunate than me. In doing this, I remind myself: my goal isn't wealth, but stability, and I should be grateful for what I have, because there are many people with far less than me. Given I've quit my original stable job at God's behest and instead found work that truly aligns with my interests and passions, as well as brings in more money than my original job, I'd say God definitely handled things there (and continues to handle things because He knows what I need to keep going in this work).
Another example are my return to senders and bindings. Whenever I've asked God for justice, He has not let my cries go unheard. He's even recommended me which Psalms and verses to use to channel the full brunt of His force down on those who are causing problems in my life, and it's ended in ways that only God could end them. I and my family have gotten untangled from pretty bad people thanks to God's intervention and how we orchestrated these miracles into being together. All glory and honor goes to God for these works, though: there's never any mistake about that.
Temper your expectations. Understand that what you want may not be what you need. Ask God how to get the things you're looking for, if they're even good for you, and He'll guide you.
How Does God's Will Affect Our Spellwork?
God's Will and our own intention related. I am not sure - what if my Intention in my spell is one thing but God wants for me something else... As a Christian Witch should I always end my spell saying - Let it be as God wants? Will it weaken our spell? —Milan
Hi, Milan!
I'll answer your question with a question: why would you want to do a spell that's not aligned with God's will? Does it really matter if ending it that way will weaken or cancel a spell if God doesn't want that spell to go through? At the end of the day, our magic isn't for our own wishes. We are the hands and feet of God. It's important to clear big moves with Him if you're using His power in the first place.
How to Destroy the Evangelical Egregore's Influence?
My grandmother has changed in some alarming ways [after staying with my evangelical uncle's family], with her physical and mental health deteriorating now significantly more rapidly and her beliefs and opinions aligning more with my uncles. I guess my question is, is the egregore potentially responsible for any of the above, and if so, is there anything I can do? —Stephanie
Hey, Stephanie!
Oof, I'm sorry that you're going through this. :( Though it's always best to think mundane before magical, and in this case, the thing with older folks is that they very easily and very quickly become products of their environment. If their environment sucks, they'll end up absorbing that atmosphere like miasma.
The best thing would be to get her out of that environment if possible. The next best thing would be to stay in frequent contact with her and remind her of her capacity for gentleness, mercy, compassion, and empathy, and by taking her out where possible to have fun on the town and be reminded of the goodness of people around her. Joy and love are the antithesis of that Goddamn egregore.
Do Catholic and Orthodox Doctrine Differ on Witchcraft?
Hi, I'm Madalena and I would like to know if there is a difference in orthodox and catholic doctrine in case I wish to be a witch (I have found I have a few gifts I wish to evolve and I'm still very confused on how to proceed). Thank you for your time. —Madalena
Hi, Madalena!
As far as I know, the Catholic and Orthodox churches are pretty much in alignment on the things that matter regarding mysticism: the intercession of Saints, the capacity for miracles, the power of prayer and the use of meditation tools/items like bells, incense, candles, and holy salt, oil, and water, etc. They'll also both tell you that witchcraft is bad because they're working on an outdated definition of it. But either way, you shouldn't have to choose a side if you want to get more into the witchy things!

Her fantasy works draw heavily on the wisdom she gathers from her own personal and spiritual experience, and her spiritual practice borrows much of the whimsy and wonder that modern society has relegated to fairy-and-folktale.
